Our Debt Filled Engagement

August 24th, 2008

I rushed things. I really wanted to ask my girlfriend to marry me. After all, we’d been waiting two years for my financial footing to improve. But it didn’t. I didn’t get the raise I was hoping for, so I just decided to go ahead with the engagement regardless. I took her totally by surprise, purchasing a large diamond, not a CZ. And she said yes! However, it was a dumb move… buying the large diamond, I mean. The engagement was good, but once we were married the ring payments ate up all of our combined savings and were getting placed on our credit card after a while. Other payments suffered and we didn’t think we’d ever get out of debt. But we recently read the article, “Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about Credit” and decided to go to Christian debt relief counseling. Both were truly helpful, and now we know there is life after bad credit.
