Marriage Records are almost as important as Birth Records
February 27th, 2009Marriage records are almost as important as birth records in getting some government services. The US state and county pages are being updated with addresses, rules, and fees to apply for a newer marriage certificate or record of your own marriage, as well as information for engaged couples applying for the marriage license to get married. Marriage records are open records, no application form is required. No plain copies are issued. Marriage records are filed in the county where the marriage took place. If you have no clue as to where the marriage occurred, you could spend hours guessing which state, which county and which courthouse the record would be located.
Search thoroughly, even in unlikely places, lest you overlook these treasured records. Searching for vital records such as records of marriages to fill out family trees should be one of the priorities of all genealogy research. Anyone may submit the proper form and fee and obtain any marriage records. Copies of the original register entry can be obtained from AFGS, for an additional charge. Copies of the microfilm can be ordered and viewed at any LDS Family History Center throughout the world.
