Ways to be Romantic

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

Rarely does Valentine’s Day pass by without your notice. Even if you are single and think the day has no significance, the day will arrive and you will want a relationship more than usual. If you are in a relationship and Valentine’s Day does not get celebrated, it will leave hurt and resentment in its wake.

I invite you to think of Valentine’s Day as “Focus on Love Day,” as opposed to “Hurt About Lack of Love Day” or “Ignore Being Single Day.”

Below you will find ways to make your “Focus on Love Day” extraordinarily romantic, whether you are in a long-term relationship, dating, or are single.

A note for people who are in a new relationships, or who are dating someone but are not in a committed relationship. At the beginning of a relationship, it is best not to have too any expectations about how Valentine’s Day will be celebrated. It is also best not to get disappointed if it is not celebrated in just the way you would want. In time, as you and your partner get closer, both of you will be able to celebrate Valentine’s Day and other holidays in more meaningful ways…

How To Overcome Shyness

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I have done many forms of counseling through out my career. Many people are inflicted with a variety of syndromes, disorders and illnesses. I have a very straightforward way of dealing with people that has been successful. I do not spend a great deal of time going over why someone feels or believes the way they do, instead I tackle ways that they can change their feelings and behaviors. Once the offensive, destructive or limiting behavior is changed the person is freer to discover why they behaved or believed the way they did. Some disorders are easier to treat than others. Many times it is re-establishing a behavior or habit. Recently I had a client that wanted to learn how to overcome shyness.

Depression Medication

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

When you think you’re having a bad day, just think about that kid in a Third World country who doesn’t even have a meal. It’s time for a serious reality check. Although I may not agree with all the statements Tom Cruise makes, I have to agree with his take on drugs to some level. Today’s generations take way too many narcotics to get by in life. Toughen up or find another way. That depression medication is not the answer to everything. One day you’ll actually have to be happy with yourself and move on with life.

FreedomsProcess: Teen Relationships

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

If you can listen to your child without making judgments on their behaviors they will be more likely to confide in you.  It is very difficult for a parent to listen without judging the behaviors. An example of this would be my experience with my niece.  My niece was having sex with her boyfriend.  They were not married.  It is my believe that unmarried people should not be having sex.  My niece knows how I feel about such matters as we have had many conversations on the subject.  I have told her that I believe it works better and causes a lot less pain if sex is not involved, but it is the choice of the individual.  Therefore, when she comes to me and explains what she is going through I can tactfully ask her if sex was involved or not.

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

Counseling can mean a lot of different things, but today it usually refers to a form of talk directed therapy.  It would be nothing short of a small miracle for someone to make it through a long life without ever coming into hard times, or having mental and or emotional distress.  Counseling is one way for people to work through difficulties they may be having in this respect …

Beauty Love and Fitness –Finding love is as important as finding air

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

Finding love is as important as finding air.

Almost everything we are wanting boils down to us wanting love or us wanting happiness. We think we will find love “out there,” so we look for a partner to make us happy. Sometimes we find such a person, and it seems to satisfy our hunger for love at least for a while. It is hard to find lasting love outside. Yet most people keep looking for it out there, and seldom do they look where love always…

Support Groups And Program For Your Loved One

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

I have worked in the field of human services for many years. Throughout the years I have seen many therapy trends come and go, but one that seems to linger and be truly helpful to people is the 12 step program. I think one of the main reasons the 12 step program sustains the test of time is that most of the support groups that center themselves on the steps are run by members.

Body Language Speaks Volumes

Friday, July 14th, 2006

Part of good communication is understanding what is not said … well, at least not voiced with words.  Body language is a silent partner in communication that can help you understand what is really being said.

Hand and arm gestures express many feelings. For example, we see people rubbing the palms of their hands when they expect something good to occur. Rubbing a thumbnail against an index finger is one of the most common signs of asking for money.

Relationships and the ‘He-Said, She-Said Syndrome”

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Many couples deal with the “he said, she said” syndrome.  He may have said something to the kids, she may have said something to the kids, and when the whole family is together, its clear that there is a conflict.  This “he said, she said” syndrome crops up in large family gatherings and in circles of friends. If he says one thing, and she says another, it looks like one of the partners is lying and definitely looks like communication is not one of the strong points of the relationship.

It may be that both partners are telling the truth, as they perceive it, because men and women think and process information differently. Read more about the differences in how men and women communicate and how it affects their relationships.
