Acupuncture is one of the world’s oldest and most frequently used medical procedures and appears in what is reputed to be the world’s first medical textbook – a 4,700 year old Chinese publication entitled Huang Di Nei Jing, or The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine.
Acupuncture is practiced throughout China and the Far East, but it did not gain acceptance in the West until just a few years ago. In the United States for example it received very little attention until an article about it was published in the New York Times in 1971.
