The Medical Magic of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy

Since 2005, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy has been must-see television for Americans across the country.
The medical dramedy initially follows the lives of several interns, residents and attendings at
Seattle Grace Hospital as their professional and personal lives unfold. The first big medical
series hit since ER, the show has a massive following with excellent humor and poignant drama, on and off set.

The main character of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy is Meredith Grey. Self-described as “dark and twisty,”
she’s a down to earth, ambitious intern with two surgeons for parents who never got along.
Working in the shadow of her mother, Ellis Grey, who was a world renown surgeon that
practiced at Seattle Grace until her Alzheimers became unmanageable, Meredith shows a tremendous
amount of promise. In the beginning of the first season, we find out that the night before
she began her internship, she got hammered at a bar and took a man home. This man, as it
turns out, is also an attending physician at the hospital named Derek Shepard,
affectionately referred to by Meredith’s fellow interns as “McDreamy.”

Though the romance between Meredith and Derek (referred to by fans as “MerDer”)
is an implausible one, it progresses nicely with ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. The two
go back and forth, as Derek turns out to be married and seeking a divorce, and
Meredith’s daddy issues often complicate the emotional honesty of the relationship.
Meredith also experiences two major life threatening experiences while working, and
through the entire process, is able to come to a place where she is willing to try
to make things work with Derek. They finally become engaged, but at the last second,
instead of going through with the wedding, they sacrifice their wedding plans to allow
a dying friend experience a dream wedding to her boyfriend. They are uninterested in
planning an elaborate wedding again, and so they perform their own nuptials by writing
down their vows on a post-it and signing them as a personal contract between the two of them.

MerDer’s romantic drama often takes center stage in ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy,
but there’s plenty of behind the scenes drama as well. Most notably,
Isaiah Washington, the actor playing attending heart surgeon Burke,
was dismissed from the show after using homophobic slurs about a cast mate.
Katherine Heigl also made waves after refusing an Emmy nomination because
she felt the writing for her character did not merit the attention.
However, despite this behind the scene’s drama, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy continues to thrive.

Secrets of Dating a Rich Man

So let’s say you’ve taken up dating a rich man. Remember your
mother always said “It’s just as easy to date/marry/have a rich
man as a poor man.

Mom was not good with math and never could figure out how many
more poor men there are than rich men. But say you’ve got one.

This is bragging rights, of course. But does this guy have any
qualities but being rich? How about honest? Faithful?

There are always good looking men Unless you think the money
makes anybody good looking. Is he friendly? Can he get along
with your friends? Your parents?

Is he hard working or does he have enough money so you are
stuck with him all day every day? Will he hit you?

How much money qualifies as rich, as in dating a rich man?
Is he chock-a-block in wonderful qualities like helping the
poor and handicapped? Does he kick puppies?

Does he Kill animals and hang their poor dead heads in the
living room? How long, exactly, under the present circumstances
will the money last? Is he likely to spend it on you ?
Are you likely to save it?

If you are dating a rich man, what do you suppose his dating goal
is or was? Barbie doll? Is that you, or are you just a temporary
stopping point?

Does he want someone to show to his parents and move in his
social class? Is that you? Can you tell one fork from another
on the dinner table? Can he?

Think about your own qualities. Was he out looking for someone
with your attributes and qualities, or is this some fluke-y thing?
In which case it won’t last long, dearie.

Normally, couples look for things they have in common.
Would’nd it be nice if that were true in the game of dating a rich man.

But if there’s a common interest in good food for example,
can you tell what you are eating in front of his friends
at a fancy French restaurant?

On the other hand, think how it might feel not to look at the
prices on the menu. Some fancy restaurants used to give women
menus without prices so they wouldn’t think about anything
as low class as money, and assume the guy can pay no matter what.

Probably that kind of eating wouldn’t get old, but it might make you fat,
and without knowing what he was looking for, you may be in trouble.
Even if he got fat, too, everybody would expect you to take it off.

Dating Tips

My parents meant well, but in some ways they have really made social development difficult for me.

You see, I was home-schooled as a kid, and kind of isolated from all the rest of the kids my age.

I never got to hang out with the neighborhood girls growing up, or to go to parties.

When I had my first date – at the age of 16 – my dad gave me some simple dating advice.

He told me that as long as you are polite to a girl and really act like a gentleman, it will always be easy to meet nice young ladies.

Needless to say, his dating tips did not serve me well in life. I had little experience to go on when I got to college and wanted to go out and meet girls, and no good advice on dating.

What was worse, I did not know where to go for dating tips. Most of the boys were eager to give out a dating tip to anyone who would listen, but they were always pretty crude about it.

They had dating tips for men that basically all centered around how to get a girl to let you sleep over night.

I wasn’t really interested in that kind of relationship, but I could not find meaningful plutonic relationships advice.

The problem is that everyone wants to feel like an expert on matters of love. Everyone will offer you dating tips whether or not you ask.

Whether it was my roommate commenting on the shirts that I would
wear when I went out on dates, or my best friend talking about what movie we should go to, I could not find many people who did not have something to say.

I still could not find any dating tipsthat I trusted, and now I was overwhelmed with a lot of advice that I did not want.

I tried writing into a dating advice column, but that did me no good. They would not answer my question as it was not racy enough.

Finally, I gave up on dating tips. I knew that whatever I
learned about love and romance I would have to learn myself. It took me some time to figure out how to meet women, but I did figure it out.

The history of chocolate is much longer and more involved than most people are familiar with. Most people tend to go to a store and purchase a candy bar without thinking of the rich history of the rich treat. It’s a history covering widely separated continents and times

Going into a grocery store and plunking a chocolate bar on the counter one would never know that what we find to be a cheap, rich chocolaty experience, started thousands of years ago as a dark bitter drink, laced with chili peppers, that at least in Aztec culture was reserved for the most honored members of society.

It wasn’t exactly restricted to royalty, but only royalty, priests and such personages as decorated soldiers and honored merchants had access to it.

Chocolate is created based on the cacao seed and was once used as a form of Aztec currency. Defeated enemies were many times forced to pay their ransom in cacao seeds.

The Maya were the first known people to have discovered the cacao tree in the rain forests of South America. They gathered the seeds from the tree and cultivated them in their own cities and villages during the Classical Maya Period (250-900 A.D.).

However, taking chocolate from the cacao seed to a sweet had a long history, especially since sugar as a commodity crop wasn’t available to the Mesoamerican people. After harvesting, the seeds were fermented, roasted and ground up into a paste. The paste was then mixed with water and various ingredients such as cornmeal and chili peppers into a spicy, frothy drink.

Let’s face it, this was not the stuff of Hershey and Lindt bars, Leonidas, Dove or Ghirardelli chocolates. There were no truffles, sampler boxes or chocolate covered strawberries, blueberries or chocolate covered cherries.

This was a very raw product that, like middle-ages wine, had to have a LOT of help to get swallowed. It was nothing to go into an intense ecstacy of chocolate about.

From the Maya, cacao migrated to the Aztec both as a trade commodity and through conquest. Like ransom, tributes from conquered people were required to be paid in cacao seeds.

After trying most of the new mattress styles, I have to admit that the memory foam matress was the most comfortable. My wife even agreed on this.
